In this edition, we're exploring how to use Claude Artifacts to conduct a visual SWOT analysis that's easy to update and share with your team.

The Problem

Creating comprehensive SWOT analyses often means juggling between spreadsheets and presentation tools, making updates time-consuming and collaboration difficult. Traditional methods result in static documents that are hard to maintain and share effectively.

How We Do It: A Step-by-Step Guide

Let's walk through how we use Claude Artifacts to create an interactive visual SWOT analysis.

Step 1: Generate the SWOT Analysis

First, let's get Claude to understand the purpose and context and create the analysis. In our example we’ll analyze Anthropic, the company behind Claude.

Here's a prompt template for you to use:

Act as an expert Market Analyst. Create a comprehensive SWOT analysis for [Company Name], a [brief company description] operating in [industry/sector]. Consider the following in your analysis:

- Company background: [Key products/services, market position]
- Current market trends in [industry]
- Main competitors: [List key competitors]
- Target audience: [Describe ideal customers/users]

Step 2: Create the Visual Component

Now we'll transform the analysis into an interactive visualization by asking Claude to create a React component, an interactive webpage element that lets us display, collapse, and add to our analysis points right in the browser. This is much handier than a static document when you're presenting to your team or updating your analysis over time.

Here's the template:

Based on the SWOT analysis for [Company Name], create an interactive React component that:

1. Uses a 2x2 grid layout separating the four SWOT categories
2. Implements color coding ([Color] for Strengths, [Color] for Weaknesses, [Color] for Opportunities, [Color] for Threats)
3. Makes each category expandable/collapsible
4. Allows users to add new points in each category
5. Places categories according to standard SWOT matrix positioning

Boom! We have an interactive SWOT Analysis.

Step 3: Review and Refine

After generating the visual, we can request improvements.

  • Add specific features
  • Improve specific aspects
  • Modify specific elements

We wanted to improve its appearance and add a feature to make it useful in meetings, allowing us to include additional points, so we tried this. ⬇️

The visual SWOT analysis looks great, but I have a couple of requests:

1. Add a brief summary of key insights at the top of the visual
2. Incorporate icons or small illustrations to make each category more visually distinct

And now we have an interactive SWOT analysis to work with! Just click the ‘Publish’ button at the bottom right to share it with anyone in your company so they can add new items if they’d like.
