Hello AI Enthusiast,

Today, we're exploring how to leverage Claude - or any other Generative AI Tool - to create personalized email sequences. We'll show you how we used it to craft our Generative AI Project Bootcamp welcome emails, and how you can apply the same techniques to your own sequences.

The Problem

Let's talk about a challenge that's probably familiar to many of you: creating email sequences that actually work. If you've ever tried to craft a series of emails, you know it's not as simple as writing a few messages and hitting send.

Each email needs to maintain your brand voice while naturally flowing into the next, all while balancing the right amount of information with engaging content. And let's be honest – writing those upgrade emails that don't sound pushy? That's an art in itself.

At AI Academy, we recently tackled this challenge for our bootcamp welcome sequence, and we discovered how AI can transform this complex process into something much more manageable. Here's how we did it.

How We Do It: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Define Your Sequence Goals First
We outlined clear objectives for each email:

  • Email 1: Welcome new students and provide essential program information

  • Email 2: Introduce AI Academy Membership benefits and encourage upgrades

  1. Craft the Base Prompt.
We used the CIDI framework to build an example base prompt for Claude

CONTEXT: - You are an email marketing specialist at [Company Name] - This email is part of a [X]-part sequence for [specific purpose] - Target audience: [detailed audience description] - Previous interactions: [any relevant history/touchpoints] INSTRUCTIONS: - Write an email for [specific purpose] - Create [X] subject line variations - Include a clear call-to-action - Format for easy scanning DETAILS: - Tone: [specific tone guidelines] - Length: [preferred length] - Must include: [key information points] - Must avoid: [what to exclude] - Brand voice requirements: [from brand guidelines] INPUT: [Paste relevant existing content, templates, or examples]

  1. Apply the Framework
Here's how we personalized the base prompt for email 1 in our welcome sequence:

CONTEXT: - You are an email marketing specialist at AI Academy - This is the first email in a 2-part welcome sequence - Target audience: New students who just enrolled in the Generative AI Project Bootcamp - This is their first communication after payment confirmation INSTRUCTIONS: - Write a welcome email that informs students about the program details and how to access the community - Create 3 engaging subject line options - Include clear next steps - Format for easy scanning DETAILS: - Tone: Warm, enthusiastic, supportive - Length: 200-300 words - Must include: * Start date (January 13rd) * Discord community invitation * Live session calendar link - Must avoid: * Technical jargon * Overwhelming information - Brand voice: Practical, straightforward, human INPUT: [Previous welcome email content + Brand guidelines sections about voice and tone]

  1. Refine Through Iteration
    For each email, we:

  • Generated initial versions using the CIDI framework

  • Reviewed against brand guidelines

  • Asked Claude to rewrite specific sections with detailed feedback

Your Turn

Ready to create your own email sequence using CIDI? Here's a practical exercise:

  1. Choose a simple email sequence you need to create and define your goals

  2. Use the CIDI framework template we provided to customize the prompt for your specific needs
